Decent watch, probably won't watch again, and can't honestly recommend. Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion are always great on screen, and the movie does an excellent job of complex character writing, but it is almost entirely drama. The story is borderline depressing for the majority of the movie. I'm glad this movie exists, and I'm sure it does good things for a very particular audience, but I also feel that the ideal audience for this is very small.
**"Bad Baby" pie** This wonderful and underrated tragicomedy is sensitive, appealing, and full of colors and textures. In it, Keri Russell ("The Americans", "The Diplomat") plays a sweet and kind-hearted waitress. However, her seemingly divine outlook is shattered by her husband: a misogynistic scoundrel who keeps her practically held captive and completely subdued. To make matters worse, after a drunken night, she becomes pregnant by him, leaving her torn between the unhappiness of her married life and the moral imposition of an unwanted baby. Meanwhile, she eases her most wretched moments by inventing all kinds of pies with original names. At times excessively sugar-coated, the film is very well-developed and never slows its pace. The protagonist's beauty and casual charm give the story a highly fitting fairy-tale touch. For her part, director Adrienne Shelly reserves a role for herself as a more joyless creature; a role that, unfortunately, she never got to see on the big screen, as she was murdered in her apartment before the film's release.
